At least 20 girls, including Houston ISD student Greta Toranzo, are missing after catastrophic flooding hit Camp Mystic in Kerr County, Texas.
A devastating flash flood has resulted in at least 20 children being reported missing from Camp Mystic, a girls’ summer camp located in the Texas Hill Country, as surging waters inundated Kerr County overnight.
Among those unaccounted for is Greta Toranzo, a student at Sinclair Elementary School, as reported by members of the Sinclair Elementary Facebook group.
“It is with great sorrow that we announce one of our Sinclair students is currently missing from Camp Mystic due to the floods in Kerr County,” the group shared on Friday evening. “Her parents have requested that her picture be disseminated widely as they seek her.” Kindly remember Greta and her family in your thoughts.
Camp Mystic, situated on the swiftly rising Guadalupe River, was flooded after central Kerr County experienced up to 10 inches of rain early Friday morning, causing the river to rise over 20 feet in just 90 minutes.
Local and state officials have initiated critical search and rescue operations.
As of late Friday, over 20 children remain unaccounted for, and at least 24 individuals have been confirmed deceased throughout the region. Numerous rescue personnel, helicopters, and drones have been mobilized to find missing campers and residents.
Sinclair Elementary, situated in Houston’s Lazybrook/Timbergrove neighborhood, has united the community to support Greta’s family and raise awareness about the missing children.
Officials are persistently advising individuals to steer clear of the vicinity and permit emergency personnel to carry out their duties.
