Schlitterbahn Galveston is requiring adult chaperones for guests 17 and younger during the Memorial Day weekend, marking an early policy shift under its new ownership.
The rule, in effect Friday through Monday, requires minors to be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone at least 21 years old. Park officials said the move is part of “our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, family-friendly environment.”
According to the policy, each chaperone must present a valid government-issued photo ID and may supervise no more than six minors. The park clarified that adults are not required to accompany minors on rides but must remain inside the park at all times.
The announcement sparked mixed reactions online, with some social media users questioning how strictly the rule would be enforced, while others supported the measure as a practical way to manage large crowds of unsupervised teens.
The policy comes shortly after Florida-based Enchanted Parks acquired Schlitterbahn Galveston and several other properties from Six Flags in a $331 million deal finalized in March. Company leadership has described 2026 as a “transitional year” as it implements operational changes across its newly acquired parks.
In addition to the chaperone requirement, the park is offering free admission to active-duty military, reserves, and National Guard members from Saturday through Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Eligible guests must show a valid military ID and can receive 40% off up to six additional tickets for family and friends.
Park officials also said existing season passes purchased before April 6 under Six Flags ownership will continue to be honored. A payment plan option for new season passes is expected to launch after the holiday weekend.
Schlitterbahn Galveston reopened earlier this month under its new operator, and officials say additional updates and policies may follow as the park continues its transition.
