League City celebrated its veterans with music, community, and heartfelt tributes on Tuesday at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, featuring performances, a barbecue lunch, and a keynote speech by Marine veteran Brent Faust of the Operation Red Wings Foundation.

On Tuesday, League City held its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center, bringing together community members to honor the brave individuals who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The afternoon celebration came alive with stirring musical performances from the League City Concert Band, the Bay Area Chorus, and the Clear Brook High School choir, creating a vibrant and patriotic atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed a delightful barbecue lunch crafted by the Smokin’ Revolver BBQ Cookers, a dedicated group of veterans from League City who volunteered their time and skills for the occasion.
Brent Faust, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, took the stage as the distinguished guest speaker for the ceremony. Faust, currently affiliated with the Operation Red Wings Foundation, discussed the essential services the organization offers to veterans grappling with post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, brain injuries, and various mental health issues.
“Veterans possess experiences that are beyond the comprehension of most,” Faust remarked. “The most important thing is our unwavering presence for them—within our communities, through our discussions, and deep in our hearts.”
Operation Red Wings Foundation, based in Texas, offers therapeutic retreats and support programs designed to help veterans and their families heal and reconnect after service-related trauma. Faust highlighted that recognition events such as those in League City serve as significant reminders of the community's dedication to its veterans.
At the ceremony, League City Mayor Nick Long, alongside several City Council members, expressed gratitude to local service members for their consistent commitment and sacrifice. According to the organizers, the annual event seeks to showcase the accomplishments and ongoing needs of veterans throughout the area.
The event concluded with a standing ovation for the city’s veterans in attendance—a symbolic gesture underscoring League City’s long tradition of honoring military service.
“League City has consistently honored those who serve,” remarked one attendee. “This moment is not solely about honoring their history—it’s about supporting them in the present.”

Disney Cruise Line will remove the Disney Magic from Galveston in mid-2027 after nearly 15 years of seasonal service. The ship will relocate to Vancouver for Alaska sailings, while Disney has not yet announced which vessel, if any, will replace it in Texas.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Davie Defense Inc. will expand shipbuilding operations in Galveston and Port Arthur, investing more than $730 million and creating over 2,400 jobs. The state awarded the company a $21.7 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant to support the project, which will focus on building Arctic icebreakers and other specialized vessels.

The La Marque City Council confirmed Byron Frankland as the city’s new police chief Monday night. Frankland, a longtime law enforcement and public safety leader, will begin his new role Feb. 16 following a nationwide search that drew more than 40 applicants.
