Michael and Ashley Cordray, stars of Restoring Galveston, are expanding their island empire with Local Dogs, a new hot dog and sno-cone stand housed in a converted 1920s filling station. The couple shared updates on social media as they put finishing touches on their latest venture.
Michael and Ashley Cordray, the dynamic duo from Galveston known for their popular Magnolia Network show Restoring Galveston, are making waves in the culinary scene with the launch of Local Dogs, their inaugural restaurant venture.
Located in a beautifully renovated 1922 filling station that was transformed into a 1940s-style tire shop, the new dining spot offers straightforward comfort food, nostalgic appeal, and a welcoming atmosphere for families.
The Cordrays have recently shared updates on social media regarding the progress of Local Dogs, which is nearing completion. They mentioned they are in the process of testing the setup, refining the menu, and ensuring that every detail is perfectly in place. The eatery will offer hot dogs, sno-cones, and hand-cut fries, focusing on a simple, timeless menu.
The Cordrays have a knack for revitalizing aged environments. With their Save 1900 real estate company and television series, they have revitalized numerous historic residences and commercial buildings throughout Galveston. Local Dogs is situated conveniently down the street from Cordray Drug Store, which features a hand-rolled ice cream parlor that opened its doors in 2022.
The Season 7 finale of Restoring Galveston showcased the remarkable transformation of Local Dogs from a dusty, uneven-floored tire shop into a charming, retro-style hangout. Viewers tuned in to see the Cordrays transform the building using reclaimed metal roofing, retro windows, and custom family-style tables.
The former service bay has been transformed into a specialized sno-cone station. An outdoor patio has been enhanced with bocce ball and cornhole, highlighting the relaxed, community-focused atmosphere.
The latest job postings highlight a dynamic work environment where team members have the opportunity to transition between various roles. “Each shift is a blend tailored to the day,” one post stated.
“Preserving old buildings is just as crucial as saving the historic homes,” Michael stated. “And they hold equal significance for people's enjoyment.”
While an official opening date remains under wraps, the Cordrays are undoubtedly eager to invite both Galveston residents and visitors to their upcoming neighborhood spot.
Summer beach season has begun, but officials are reminding the public that rip currents remain a deadly danger, especially for inexperienced swimmers. Two young females were rescued Monday in a near-drowning incident along the South Texas Gulf Coast, prompting renewed beach safety warnings.
