A man lost his life by drowning near the Galveston Seawall on Sunday night, despite the valiant attempts of beachgoers and emergency responders to rescue him.
According to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, the incident took place at approximately 6:45 p.m. close to 13th Street and Seawall Boulevard.
In a remarkable turn of events, two individuals enjoying a boogie boarding session in the Gulf's chest-deep waters spotted a man floating face down. They swiftly acted, bringing him to the shore and promptly starting first aid efforts. "They responded promptly, transporting him to the beach and initiating CPR," stated a representative from the Beach Patrol.
Upon the arrival of the Beach Patrol, they promptly continued CPR until the EMS personnel assumed control of the situation. Galveston EMS brought the man to UTMB Galveston Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The investigation into the incident has not yet revealed the man's identity. The Galveston Island Beach Patrol is actively collecting more information.
