Nick Saban, the Hall of Fame college football coach, bought a Gulf Coast property, making headlines. He and an Alabama team secured the Perdido Beach Resort near Gulf Shores.
According to AL.com, Aurora Hospitality Partners, owned by Saban and his wife Terry, bought the Orange Beach-Gulf Shores beachfront property. The acquisition makes the former Alabama and LSU coach a crucial factor in overseeing a popular tourist resort.
Aurora co-founder Blair Plott said the company wants to keep the resort's reputation while improving its appeal. Plott said it "means a great deal" to see the resort progress under the Alabama-based administration, which plans to expand on its tradition and improve visitor experience.
Established in 1987, Perdido Beach Resort features 338 guest rooms and over 40,000 square feet of meeting and event space, making it a popular choice for leisure travelers and convention attendees. The facility has various pools, beach volleyball courts, kayaking and paddleboarding, and several dining options, including Voyagers, a fine-dining restaurant.
National lifestyle media have covered the resort. Last summer, Southern Living named Perdido Beach Resort one of the “Best Beach Resorts for a Relaxing Getaway.” Their proximity to the Gulf, numerous food options, and coastal vibe earned the resort praise.
Saban has been a familiar face on ESPN's “College GameDay” and in national commercial campaigns since retiring from coaching. His recent resort investment expands his business. Saban and Aurora investor Nick Agresti own Mercedes-Benz of Dream Motor Group, which operates The Woodlands in Texas, along with 11 other luxury car dealerships located in Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana.
Saban is renowned for his coaching prowess. He became one of college football's most successful coaches after winning a national title at LSU in 2003 and six more at Alabama from 2009 to 2020. He left coaching after 2023.
Aurora Hospitality Partners has not announced any imminent changes to resort operations, but it plans to reinvest and expand to make Perdido Beach Resort a top Gulf Coast tourist destination.
