A 42-year-old man has been taken into custody and faces murder charges following an incident where he allegedly shot and killed a 29-year-old man. The victim's body was found inside a vehicle in Galveston over the weekend.
On Tuesday, the Galveston Police Department reported that Larry Ballard, 42, was apprehended during a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Broadway by a multi-agency task force.
Ballard faces allegations of murdering David Rodriguez, 29, who was discovered with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle on Avenue N ½ near 17th Street just before 7 p.m. on Saturday. Authorities confirmed that Rodriguez was deceased at the location.
Authorities reported that the apprehension followed an extensive investigation over the weekend, which enabled detectives to pinpoint Ballard as the individual in question. Authorities have yet to disclose information regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the relationship between the two men involved.
Ballard has been taken into custody at the Galveston County Jail with a bond set at $500,000. As of Tuesday evening, authorities had yet to disclose a motive in the case.
Authorities in Galveston have stated that the investigation is ongoing and are urging anyone with further details regarding the shooting to reach out to the Criminal Investigations Division or provide tips anonymously via Galveston Crime Stoppers.
