Bolivar heavy trash day set for March 6-7

Galveston County officials have announced a free two-day heavy trash event for Bolivar Peninsula residents, scheduled for March 6-7, to help them clear out bulky waste.

In a collaborative effort, Galveston County, Texas, and the Galveston County Sheriff's Office are set to host an event at the county’s Road and Bridge Department facility at 920 Noble Carl Drive in Crystal Beach.

The disposal site is scheduled to be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 6, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 7. The event is being promoted as complimentary for local residents.

County officials announced that the upcoming event aims to assist residents with the removal of storm debris and bulky items typically not included in regular curbside collection services. Accepted materials for disposal include heavy trash, debris, wood, palm fronds, small branches, and furniture. Additionally, passenger tires are permitted, with a maximum limit of four per vehicle.

A chipper is set to be available on-site for the processing of palm fronds and small branches. Officials have announced that commercial loads will not be accepted.

The use of specific materials is not allowed. The site will not accept hazardous materials, including paint, electronics, automotive fluids, batteries, commercial tires, commercial debris, and regular household trash.

The initiative seeks to combat neighborhood blight and enhance public safety by providing residents with a designated drop-off site for oversized waste. The organizers encourage residents to secure their loads properly during transportation and follow the on-site instructions from county staff.

The Galveston County Nuisance Abatement Division is leading the cleanup initiative and is available to address inquiries at 409-766-4509.

Periodic events are scheduled on the Bolivar Peninsula to address seasonal debris accumulation and enhance storm preparedness ahead of the upcoming hurricane season.

Residents are urged by officials to plan for early arrival, especially on Saturday, when operating hours are restricted.
