In Mac McGaffey Highland Bayou Park, the City of La Marque commemorated the second day of its annual Bayou Fest on Saturday, providing a diverse array of enjoyable activities for families.
The festival included various children's events, such as the Rusty Hook Fishing Club's popular kids' fishing tournament, mutton bursting, pumpkin decorating, and a kids cook-off competition. Children engaged in interactive activities that were intended to be both entertaining and engaging.
In addition to the children's events, the State Championship Cook-off featured over 60 cooking teams that competed for $12,500 in prize money in the brisket, pork rib, poultry, and pork divisions within the competition. Local flavors and culinary talents were showcased during the competition, which attracted food devotees from throughout the region.
Bayou Fest has become a cherished tradition in La Marque, attracting large audiences yearly to commemorate the local culture and community spirit. Throughout the day, attendees were entertained by a variety of different options, including live music and culinary vendors.

After 13 years as a cornerstone of Galveston’s creative scene, The Proletariat will close following a final Fat Tuesday celebration and reopen in June under a new concept. Owner Becky Major says the mission will remain rooted in community and the arts.

Galveston officials say all Mardi Gras parades and events will continue as planned despite rain in the forecast Saturday. The island will host 12 parades this weekend, including the Knights of Momus Grand Night Parade, as part of its 115th annual celebration.
