Avangrid, a leader in sustainable energy, announces plans to add over 130 hybrid bucket trucks to its utility fleet, enhancing efficiency, safety, and its commitment to clean energy.

Avangrid, Inc., a well-known sustainable energy provider and an Iberdrola Group affiliate, has announced plans to purchase approximately 130 hybrid bucket trucks over the next three years. This is a critical milestone in the company's ongoing efforts to electrify its fleet across the Northeast utilities.
These hybrid vehicles, powered by diesel engines while driving but relying solely on electricity for bucket lift operations, offer numerous benefits.
Workers can shut off truck engines while working on electrical wires, reducing exhaust pollutants and improving communication with quieter motors.
The hybrid vehicle is fuel efficient since the electric motor powers bucket lifts and cabin climate control, lowering fuel consumption during operation.
It is also built to last. Using an electric motor lowers engine wear, increasing vehicle reliability and life.
Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra emphasized the company's commitment to sustainability, stating, "We are expanding our use of new technologies to become more energy efficient while improving health and safety for our employees and communities."
The hybrid vehicles will join the company's existing renewable diesel and green fuel technology fleet, which it plans to expand. Avangrid, which already employs renewable diesel in its Lancaster, NY, service area, intends to increase its usage of green fuels, including hybrid vehicles.
This endeavor demonstrates Avangrid's dedication to innovation, environmental responsibility, and operational resilience, consistent with its goal of leading the transition to a sustainable energy future.
