Drivers traveling to Galveston should be prepared for traffic changes. A project to widen I-45 is underway, which will involve short-term main lane closures. These closures will occur from FM 519 to Tiki Drive.

A rerouting near Texas City is also part of the project. This detour is expected to be in place for approximately two years. The ultimate goal of the project is to expand I-45 to eight lanes.

Further details about the traffic changes and project timeline are available from HPM Galveston County. The changes are set to begin on August 7, and drivers can expect disruptions to their usual routes.
