Donald Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th president during a ceremony held in the Capitol Rotunda, marking his return to the White House. The event, taking place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, was relocated indoors because of freezing temperatures, signifying the first indoor inauguration since President Reagan’s second term in 1985.
Amidst a gathering of political leaders, such as President Joe Biden, former presidents, and Supreme Court justices, Trump recited the oath of office, with his wife Melania holding a family Bible alongside Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural Bible. Vice President JD Vance took the oath of office moments ago, utilizing a cherished family heirloom Bible.
In his inaugural address, Trump presented a series of bold initiatives for his second term, such as stricter immigration policies, efforts to tackle international drug cartels, boosting domestic oil production, curbing inflation, and enforcing tariffs. He also recognized recent difficulties, including natural disasters and an assassination attempt against him.
The ceremony featured musical performances by opera singer Christopher Macchio and Carrie Underwood, prayers from religious leaders, and a welcoming address by Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
Prior to the inauguration, Trump participated in a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed tea with the Bidens at the White House. On the previous day, he organized a rally and took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The event represented a new beginning, as Trump urged for hope and strength throughout his second term.
