This month, a long-time store on Galveston's historic Strand will close its doors for good after almost 20 years in business. This will be the end of an era for one of the island's most well-known boutiques.
Tina's On the Strand, known for its unique gifts and well-chosen women's clothes, said it would close by the end of the month. Wendy LeCornu Morgan, the owner, said the family chose to focus on The Admiralty, their nautical-themed store a few blocks away.
Morgan remarked, "With two businesses, your lives become more about business than they do about your lives." We're at a point in our lives where we really want to enjoy our lives." "We want to have fun with our family." We aspire to focus solely on one task at a time.
The boutique launched in 2006 in the old Sealy-Hutchings Building. It soon gained a loyal customer base thanks to its unique mix of clothes, accessories, and gifts. Over the years, customers came to trust the store's carefully curated selection of embroidered clothing, leather handbags, and party accessories.
From 2015 to 2019, readers of the Galveston County Daily News voted the store the island's Best Boutique every year. This shows how popular it is with both locals and tourists.
Morgan noted that the store's success came from its ability to offer a mix of high-end and affordable things in a friendly setting. "You just wanted to walk in and see how special everything was," she added. "Everything had a sparkle to it, and it wasn't all out of reach."
Some of the boutique's most popular items, like the famous Tina's Blend Candles, will still be available online and at The Admiralty, which has been in Galveston since 1993.
The family's choice to close also marks a personal milestone for them. Morgan said that her mother, who had helped operate the store every day for years, had only recently started taking time off. This indicated that her priorities had changed after years of running the business herself.
The closure of Tina's On the Strand is not the end of the family's retail business; instead, they are consolidating all their efforts at one site.
As the boutique prepares to close, it should announce the final sales and closure details in the coming days
