Combat veteran and America First conservative Nick Tran announced his congressional bid in Texas's 8th District on September 18, 2025. The Woodlands, Conroe, and Magnolia, known for their conservative ideals, have been without a lawmaker since Rep. Morgan Luttrell stepped down on September 11.
Tran fled Vietnam at the 1975 Fall of Saigon and offers a lot of expertise. He spent 13 years in the Army, including service during Desert Storm, in Afghanistan, and in Iraq. His military duty impacted his patriotism. "I’m answering the call," Tran declared his candidacy. "I fought 13 years in Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq, repaying the nation that saved my family."
Tran's agenda matches the district's conservatism. Border security, veterans, the Second Amendment, and energy independence are his top priorities. He urged full funding for ICE and CBP due to concerns about border security. “It’s time to secure our borders, defend the Second Amendment, support veterans, fight woke policies, and champion energy independence,” Tran said.
Tran is well-versed in oil and gas as well as the military. He worked for almost a decade at Schlumberger, an energy corporation, where his engagement with veterans won it Military Friendly Employer status in 2024. Tran's professional expertise makes him a candidate who knows the district's economic and job creation needs, given its large energy workforce.
Veterans and conservative energy leaders in the district support Tran's campaign. The district has almost a quarter of its workforce in the energy sector and many veterans, so Tran's expertise connects with voters. He maintains his commitment to stopping fentanyl and human trafficking by securing the nation's borders.
“America is at war with the radical left, bureaucrats, and global terrorists,” Tran stated. "I will remain resolute in opposing their plans and work to protect the freedoms we hold dear."
Tran hopes to succeed Rep. Luttrell by defending conservative values with a strong platform and the support of district leaders. His emphasis on border security, veterans, and energy independence represents Texan values.
Former TX-08 candidate Jameson Ellis runs Tran's campaign.
