Authorities confirmed that a 21-year-old man who went missing while swimming with his family on Sunday off Galveston’s Seawall Boulevard was found dead Monday morning.

Authorities in Galveston reported on Monday that a 21-year-old man, who had gone missing while swimming with his family on Sunday afternoon, has been found lifeless.
A swimmer went missing in the vicinity of the 7300 block of Seawall Boulevard around noon on October 5, as reported by the Galveston Island Beach Patrol. The case of his disappearance prompted an extensive search effort that brought together various local and federal agencies.
Officials from the Beach Patrol reported that the Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Police Department, Galveston EMS, and the U.S. Coast Guard collaborated in the search, utilizing boats, aircraft, and ground crews to scour the area for almost two hours. Despite extensive search efforts, authorities were unable to locate the man on Sunday.
Just before 11 a.m. on Monday, beachgoers alerted authorities to a body floating near 12600 FM 3005, located several miles west of the last known sighting of the swimmer. Authorities have confirmed that the victim matches the description of the missing man.
Representatives from the Jesse Tree and the Survivor Support Network—two organizations dedicated to supporting families affected by drowning and missing swimmer incidents—are presently assisting the man's family in dealing with the aftermath.
“This is a deeply saddening result, and our condolences go out to the family,” stated Galveston Island Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis. He noted that powerful currents and swiftly shifting water conditions at the island’s beaches can surprise swimmers, even in shallow spots.
Authorities are advising guests to exercise heightened caution while swimming at Galveston beaches, particularly during the fall season when surf conditions may become erratic. Officials recommend that individuals consistently swim close to a lifeguard station, adhere to their own swimming capabilities, and review beach flag warnings before entering the water.
The identity of the individual remains undisclosed as authorities await notification of the family.
The recent incident highlights yet another drowning along the island’s bustling shoreline this year, emphasizing persistent safety issues as beachgoer numbers continue to hold steady during pleasant weather weekends.
