Authorities have identified Victor Perez Sr., 46, of La Marque, as the man who died after falling into the water in Sabine Pass on Sunday evening. Police have ruled the death accidental, with drowning as the suspected cause.
Authorities near Sabine Pass have declared the death of a La Marque man who fell into the water on Sunday night to be an accident.
The U.S. rescued the victim, who was identified as 46-year-old Victor Perez Sr. Monday morning. Before arriving at the hospital, he was declared dead by the Coast Guard along the 8000 block of South 1st Avenue.
Tim Duriso, the chief of police in Port Arthur, stated that the event happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Jefferson County Precinct Seven Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Still, preliminary findings point to drowning as the most likely reason.
Authorities are still looking into what caused Perez to fall into the sea, but they do not believe foul play was involved.
Perez's passing raises more questions regarding water safety in the Sabine Pass region, where unintentional drownings have happened in the past. Authorities advise the public to use caution when near bodies of water, particularly when the weather changes.
