Houston to Host Texas’s First Navy Fleet Week in November

This fall, Houston is set to make history as the first city in Texas to host a weeklong celebration dedicated to the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, taking place from Nov. 5-12 at the Port of Houston.

Fleet Week is a cherished event in prominent U.S. cities, offering the community opportunities to explore naval ships, observe military displays and aerial performances, and participate in informative activities. Mayor John Whitmire emphasized that hosting Fleet Week highlights Houston’s deep ties to military service.

“Fleet Week will strengthen the positive connections between the military and the community, providing Houstonians and all visitors the opportunity to explore the U.S. Navy's proud history of courage and service to the country,” Whitmire stated in an April announcement.

On August 22, city leaders introduced a new logo and website for Fleet Week Houston, designed to serve as the primary source for schedules, ship tour sign-ups, and volunteer opportunities.

“I am thrilled to announce that Fleet Week is making its debut in Houston, and as the mayor, I am excited to collaborate with the U.S. Navy and other partners to bring an incredible week of events to our city,” Whitmire stated. “With a vibrant display of ships, live music, a dedicated fan zone for Houston Texans supporters, the lively East End block party, and the city’s commemorative Veterans Day Parade, we will celebrate the cherished tradition of Fleet Week while infusing it with a unique Houston flair.”

Fleet Week Houston is set to showcase three naval vessels along with over 1,000 sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen. On November 8-9, the Fleet Week Expo will take place at Post Houston, featuring interactive displays, cultural exhibits, and demonstrations from local businesses and organizations. Post Houston is set to be the designated departure point for shuttle services to ship tours at the port.

“Houstonians will have the opportunity to connect with our sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen, learn their authentic stories, and witness firsthand the daily efforts of the sea services to ensure the safety and strength of America,” stated Rear Adm. John W. Hewitt, Commander of Navy Region Southeast. “Houston is a vibrant city full of life, and we’re eager to enhance our connections with both the military and the community.”

Fleet Week Houston is a complimentary event accessible to everyone. It will take place alongside Veterans Day festivities, as well as the conclusion of a yearlong series of events commemorating the 250th anniversaries of the Navy and Marine Corps.
