On November 29, League City will start the holiday season with two of its most famous events: the Nutcracker in the Park market and the lighting of the city's tree.
The city said both events will be held at League Park and that families from across the area will come to shop, see shows, and celebrate the holidays.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Nutcracker in the Park market will feature more than 50 local sellers offering holiday gifts, handmade items, and treats available only this time of year. Throughout the day, food trucks will be there, and people can get a free League City ornament while supplies last.
Besides that, kids will be able to take a special dance class with the Sugar Plum Fairy. You need to sign up, and you can do that through the city's Eventbrite link. City workers said the event always sells out quickly and urged families to sign up as soon as possible.
Next, from 6 to 7 p.m. that same night, the city will light its Christmas tree at League Park. A complimentary hot chocolate bar will be available at 5 p.m. to start the festivities. Everyone in the community is welcome to come, take pictures, and help mark the beginning of the holiday season by lighting the community tree.
The back-to-back events have become a tradition on League City's holiday calendar, according to city officials. They give people in the historic area activities to do during the day and in the evening. The park will remain open all day while workers transform it from an outdoor market into an evening event.
Based on recent years, organizers expect many people to show up, especially since more people are looking for local, family-friendly events to kick off the holiday season. The city plans to add more photo spots and have staff on hand to help manage crowds and ensure events go smoothly from one to the next.
Many people can attend both events for free. The main event pages for the city include more details, such as vendor lists and links to sign up.
The Nov. 29 celebrations aim to unite people through Christmas music, shopping, and the glow of the community tree, according to officials. "It is a chance for families to slow down, enjoy the park, and celebrate the start of the season together," said one staff member.
