This August, Galveston food lovers can make a difference simply by dining out. As part of Houston Restaurant Weeks, local restaurants will offer special menus from August 1 to September 1, with proceeds going to the Houston Food Bank.
From August 1 to September 1, several businesses on Galveston Island will participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks to help feed those in need. The Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in the country, and this famous fundraiser utilizes food to help those in need.
Galveston restaurants participating in the event will offer special-priced brunch, lunch, and dinner meals with multiple courses. A part of each meal sold, between $1 and $5, will be given directly to help feed families in need in the area.
The president and CEO of the Houston Food Bank, Brian Greene, said, "Food insecurity does not stop at city limits." "Support from places like Galveston is very important because we are having trouble getting money, and our needs are growing."
The Cleverley Stone Foundation is hosting the event at a time when food banks are already experiencing high demand. Since its inception in 2003, Houston Restaurant Weeks has raised over $22 million, which has helped feed more than 66 million people.
