The Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce and the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce are collaborating once again to support Lemonade Day Galveston County. This initiative aims to educate children on the fundamentals of starting and managing their own small businesses.
Lemonade Day, which began in Houston in 2007, is a national initiative that fosters youth entrepreneurship. It provides children aged 5 to 18 with the resources needed to run a lemonade stand while imparting valuable lessons in money management, customer service, and goal-setting. In 2012, the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce acquired the local license, successfully introducing the program to Galveston County.
A news release dated Jan. 14 from both chambers states that participants will receive a structured curriculum, including a business workbook, a T-shirt, and a backpack. The initiative guides students in budgeting, pricing, marketing, and customer engagement as they gear up for the countywide Lemonade Day event.
“It’s not merely about selling lemonade—it’s about instilling in young entrepreneurs the understanding that with preparation, creativity, and a robust work ethic, success is attainable,” stated Gina Spagnola, president and CEO of the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce and director of Lemonade Day Galveston County. She acknowledged the efforts of the League City Chamber for broadening participation beyond the island, emphasizing that the group “hit the ground running” to involve families on the mainland.
According to organizers, the partnership is designed to enhance the program's access and visibility across the county, building on the collaboration established last year. Registration has officially opened, even though Lemonade Day is scheduled for May 2.
In the months leading up to Lemonade Day, a series of kickoff and educational events is scheduled. The Step Up for Education Expo and kickoff event will take place on February 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weis Middle School in Galveston. A kickoff event in League City is scheduled for February 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Perry Family YMCA.
On April 18, attendees can look forward to the “Build a Stand, Spark a Dream” event, along with the Best Tasting Lemonade Contest, taking place at Chalmers Hardware in Galveston. Following Lemonade Day on May 2, young entrepreneurs will be honored at a Spirit Night celebration on May 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schlitterbahn Galveston.
Officials from the Chamber have stated that the program aims to provide children with early exposure to entrepreneurship, fostering confidence, responsibility, and financial literacy—skills that will benefit them long after Lemonade Day.
