Flood Watch issued for Galveston County residents

Forecasters are warning of heavy rain and possible flooding in much of southeast Texas until Monday evening. This includes Galveston Island, Montgomery County, and the surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service said that we can expect more rain, with totals of 1 to 3 inches. Some places could get 4 to 6 inches, especially in the southern part of the region.

Storms with heavy rain could bring 3 to 4 inches of rain per hour, raising the risk of flash floods.

The watch includes many counties in southeast Texas, such as Harris County, Fort Bend County, Brazoria County, and Chambers County. It also includes coastal and rural towns from the Bolivar Peninsula to Wharton County.

Forecasters said that too much runoff could cause rivers, creeks, and streams to rise, flooding low-lying areas that are prone to flooding. Cities with inadequate sewage systems are also more likely to flood.

The weather service warned that flooding could occur in areas with poor drainage and in cities, urging people to stay alert as conditions change.

Officials tell drivers to avoid wet roads and monitor local forecasts for updates as rain bands move across the area.

The flood watch might last until Monday night, but that depends on how the weather changes.
