Huli Huli Hut, a popular Hawaiian-style restaurant in Galveston's Strand district, suffered fire damage just before midnight on Friday. While the extent of the damage remains unclear, the owners assure customers they will rebuild.
A late-night fire broke out at a popular Galveston restaurant just before midnight on Friday. The damage is still being assessed. The Galveston Daily News reported that the Hawaiian-style restaurant Huli Huli Hut in the Strand area had major damage to the inside, but the outside looked mostly unaffected.
When customers asked about the fire, owners Dan and Lisa Lee, who opened the restaurant in 2011, said it did "quite a bit of damage." But they told the people in the area that the restaurant would be back. In a social media post, they said, "I can promise you that we will be back!!"
Huli Huli Hut has been a beloved Galveston landmark for more than ten years, known for its laid-back island vibe, surfboards, bamboo furniture, and bright paintings. Gulf seafood, burgers, bar-style appetizers, and tropical drinks are all on the menu at this restaurant. You can order raw oysters, boiled crawfish, and crabs. If you marinate and grill chicken on skewers in Hawaii, you can make this food, which is where the name comes from.
The Lees started the restaurant as a way to move to Galveston, which is a vacation spot they love. A food and drink business and a live music place in the Dallas-Fort Worth area came before Huli Huli Hut. Their love for friendly service and island-inspired food made the restaurant a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
While the owners figure out how bad the damage was over the weekend, fans have already said they hope the business opens quickly. A lot of regulars were happy to see the restaurant get back to its former glory and shared their support on social media.
The Lees are focused on getting better right now, but they have made their point clear: Huli Huli Hut will be back.
