Allegiant Air is expanding service at Gulf Shores International Airport at Jack Edwards Field, announcing multiple new nonstop routes that will begin in May 2026 as part of a broader push into the fast-growing Alabama Gulf Coast market. The Las Vegas-based budget carrier has rolled out several route announcements recently, signaling a significant investment in Gulf Shores as a leisure destination. The new service includes nonstop flights connecting the beach city with Oklahoma City, as well as additional Midwest and Southern markets.
“Thanks, Allegiant, for adding another dot on the map for OKC,” said Rogers International Director of Airports Jeff Mulder. “The Gulf Coast is already a favorite destination for Central Oklahoma travelers, and adding Gulf Shores increases their options for a wonderful beach vacation.”
Flights on the newly announced routes are expected to operate two to three times per week, consistent with Allegiant’s low-cost, leisure-focused schedule model. By spring 2026, Allegiant plans to serve 13 nonstop destinations to and from Gulf Shores, according to the airline’s announcements.
In addition to Oklahoma City, Allegiant will offer nonstop flights from Gulf Shores to Appleton, Wisconsin; Belleville, Illinois; Bentonville, Arkansas; Cincinnati; Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City, Missouri; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Nashville, Tennessee. The airline also recently announced new service from Gulf Shores to Huntsville, Alabama; Louisville, Kentucky; Omaha, Nebraska; and Springfield, Missouri.
Service to Huntsville and Omaha is scheduled to begin May 21, 2026, while flights to Louisville and Springfield are set to launch May 22. As with other Allegiant routes, the airline plans limited weekly frequency aimed at vacation travelers rather than daily business flyers.
Notably, a graphic posted on an Orange Beach, Alabama, tourism website outlining Allegiant’s 2026 nonstop routes from Gulf Shores does not show a connection to Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport. Allegiant launched Gulf Shores–Houston Hobby service in 2025, but the airline has not responded to requests for comment about whether that route will continue in 2026 or was omitted in error.
Founded in 1997 as WestJet Express, Allegiant operates a low-cost airline model focused on point-to-point service between smaller cities and popular vacation destinations. The airline is the 14th largest in North America by passengers carried, transporting about 16.7 million passengers in 2024, and employs more than 5,600 people. Its strongest markets include warm-weather destinations such as Orlando, Florida; St. Petersburg–Clearwater, Florida; and Phoenix.
