Authorities have named Aiden Prause as the individual believed to have hit Fidel Estrada with a white or silver pickup truck on Sunday before leaving the area. Authorities reported that a car, believed to be a Ford with a ladder in the bed, struck Estrada and failed to stop to assist.
Estrada was taken to a hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
Accounts from witnesses assisted investigators in honing in on the vehicle linked to the suspect. Prause turned himself in to the authorities on Friday and is now confronting a second-degree felony charge for not stopping and providing assistance after a deadly accident.
A magistrate has set a bond of $100,000 for Prause, as reported by ABC13. Records from the Galveston County Jail indicate that he secured bond and was released around 4 p.m. It is Friday.
Court documents reveal that Prause faced arrest earlier this year in Cypress, alongside another person, for allegedly breaking into a water purification facility and inflicting significant damage amounting to thousands of dollars.
The Estrada family released a statement via Click2Houston, expressing their heartbreak over the loss of their loved one and calling for justice in the matter.
Authorities have yet to provide further information on the inquiry or the possibility of additional charges.
